Sleepy Eye, MN - Library
Student Internship
Project Description:
To redesign and update this high school library to fit the needs and demands of an ever changing world. This library will need to include areas for individual study and group collaboration on assignments and projects. This space will also be used for small faculty meetings and should be clean and well organized for easy use.
Concept Statement:
This space will include creative and soothing colors to help motivate and increase productivity in the students while in the space. The color palette is simple and traditional which embraces the school's goals and statement. The space will be bright and airy with the use of the windows and clean colors used throughout the space. It will reflect the image of the school and the students who use it to learn.
Original Updated Floor Plan
- This was my original floor plan for the library; however, as I was doing the work in the library, the plan was modified in person and was never changed on Revit.
- The main entrance to the library is located in the bottom right corner of the floor plan.
- There is a second door that exits into the hallway that is located in the bottom left corner of the floor plan. It is used as an emergency exit only.
- I placed a chair that has wheels in front of that door so that in case of an emergency it can be slid out of the way to use the door. There was originally a small bookshelf placed in that doorway.
- There are a few different areas of seating throughout the library to accommodate different group sizes as well as individual study.
- This library offers plenty of shelving for books, magazines, and study material for these high school students.
Rendered Librarian Desk
- The librarian desk offers plenty of space to work and multiple shelves for book return.
- The cabinet on the left hand side will be used for atlases and featured books.
- The green walls on the north and south sides of the room help brighten the space without overwhelming it.

Rendered Seating View
- Soft seating was added to the space to make it more inviting and comfortable for students to read and work on group projects.
- The shelving was rearranged in order to be consistent in each area versus being random heights and styles.
- The space feels open and airy with the fresh colors and natural lighting.

Trophy Display View
- The two seats under the windows allow for great lighting and a little more privacy while reading.
- The shelving above the windows gives the school a proper place to put their academic trophies and awards.
- The windows also have a UV- protectant filter placed onto each of them allowing the ancient blinds to be removed and still protect the books from sun damage.

Below, I have attached some pictures of the high school's library before I started doing work and after I finished the project. I started this job in May and worked remotely while I did research and made floor plans of the space. I did all of the planning of the space prior to moving to Sleepy Eye, MN for the month of June. When June came around, I had a month to do the work and work with the maintenance crew to make my ideas come to life in this space. It not only required time management, planning, and efficiency to get the job done in a short time period, but also forced me to work within the confines of a small budget. In the end, this was a great experience because I was able to not only design this space, but also do most of the work myself. It was rewarding to watch my designs come to life and see first hand the impact my changes had on the students and faculty at this high school.

NEXT Competition.
Concept Statement:
NEXT, is a leading global consumer robot company based in Providence, Rhode Island. They are looking to expand their company in Boston, Massachusetts. At NEXT, they create consumer electronics and appliances that are designed to help you. The purpose is to improve everyday living through robotics. Designed with you in mind, NEXT products offer innovative solutions to make your life easier with intuitive and responsive controls, sleek, stylish designs, and eco-friendly features.
NEXT is a company always looking for new ways to improve the everyday lives of the people who use their products. NEXT’s workplace will encourage connectivity, collaboration, and creativity, while inhibiting sustainable features and raw materials throughout the space.

The idea of the logo has been inspired by the foundation on which the city was built on. The rocks, specifically the roxbury puddingstone rocks which are easily found in Boston, Massachusetts. The stone is specific to the area where the company is planning to be.
The design of the space will help its employees feel comfortable, productive, and creative. The idea behind this space is that the employees come from different places and have different backgrounds but all come together to produce products for a single company.

Concept Statement:
The Scarlett Lounge will be focusing its attention on gold, red, and green features throughout the acoustical features within the space. While enjoying a sip of the signature cocktail, the cosmopolitan, the customers will appreciate the variety of lighting and seating in each zone of the restaurant.
